Brief description of the lecture:
During this lecture, participants will consider the main provisions of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the procedure for submitting international patent applications. In addition, participants will learn about the basic requirements for patent applications in the United States and other countries, including such criteria as the legality of the object, novelty, the level of the invention and the possibility of its practical use.

Alexander Akhiezer - the main facts about his professional life:
His practice focuses on emerging technologies that require an interdisciplinary approach. He works with leading universities, startup companies, venture capitalists and public companies on technology commercialization issues, including patent protection and licensing issues, as well as patent lifecycle management, IP portfolio development and strategies. Participates in corporate acquisitions, development and negotiation of portfolio licensing agreements, as well as in the preparation of opinions for consulting on issues of infringement and validity of patent rights.
 
He received a degree in theoretical physics from Kharkiv National University. In 1992, he moved to the USA, where he received a second bachelor's degree at New York University, majoring in Chemistry; (1996), followed by a PhD in Physical and Computational Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001). In 2007, he received a Juris Doctor degree from the Suffolk University School of Law in Boston.
 
Since 2001, he has been working in the legal field, specializing in intellectual property, primarily patent law. He is a partner at Foley Hoag LLP, a prominent Boston law firm. His own practice focuses on helping start-up companies develop IP portfolios.
Notable awards include receiving the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for Newcomers in America (1999) and inclusion in the list of "America's Best Lawyers" (peer-reviewed publication and rating company) in 2023.
